Clinic targeting weight loss in patients through ear
acupuncture
SAN ANTONIO -- A new weight loss
movement claims you don't have to go to the gym to shed pounds but instead,
target your ear.
It's called ear stapling or ear
taping.
KENS 5 spoke with acupuncturist
Shu-Kai Tsao at Chinese Health and Beauty Institute. Tsao said he performs the
procedure using a small tape with an herbal seed or a tiny needle and attaches
it to the ear.
According to Tsao, this technique
targets pressure points on the ear that's connected to the stomach.
"We want to adjust the body
balance and improve the body digestion and your absorption that way you don't
eat so much," said Tsao.
Dr. Richard Peterson with Christus
Santa Rosa Health System said generally acupuncture can help patients, but
questions the effectiveness of this particular method.
"In the right hands definitely,
acupuncture is certainly a therapy," said Peterson.
