Acupuncture for Stress Relief

Acupuncture for Stress Relief
Acupuncture was found to relieve chronic anxiety and stress in rats, according to a recent report published in the journal Endocrinology.
Researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., say acupuncture can help treat stress “by targeting the specific pathways and regions through which it travels in the human body,” according to International Business Times.
Researchers divided the rats into four groups: One group was stressed and given acupuncture; a second was stressed and given acupuncture at a non-acupuncture point (“sham” acupuncture); the third was stressed but given no acupuncture; the fourth was left alone. The results: The rats that were not given acupuncture treatment showed greater signs of depression, anxiety and stress after 11 days. Rats given the “sham” acupuncture did not do as well as rats treated with correct acupuncture.
