Acupuncture on KARE 11

 Acupuncture on KARE 11
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Acupuncture has been used in Eastern medicine for hundreds of years and while usually thought of as a stress or pain reliever, it has been proven effective for a myriad of conditions, from headache to asthma to weight loss.
Senia Mae, Lead Acupuncturist at St. Paul's Healing InSight, joined us on KARE Saturday with more information.
Common conditions treated with acupuncture:
  • Headaches
  • Women's health issues – PMS, infertility
  • Allergies/asthma
  • Digestive issues – IBS, stomach pain, etc.
  • Chronic pain/injuries
  • Anxiety
  • Nausea from cancer treatments
  • Fibromyalgia—"unexplainable" pain often related to connective tissue
  • Weight loss
  • Acne
Acupuncture is not just done on random points on the body, but specific points with specific functions:
Anxiety/stress—points on head and wrists calm the nervous system
IBS/digestion—points on abdomen adjust blood flow in intestines
PMS—points on lower abdomen help with cramps and adjust blood flow in uterus
