A Medical Acupuncturist

Q: What conditions can be treated with acupuncture?
A: "Most of the medical conditions I treat with acupuncture are those chronic ones that are not responsive to conventional medical interventions or when the patient suffers side effects of medications," shared Faleh Atassi, M.D. He said some of the conditions for which acupuncture can be beneficial include migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, IBS, anxiety, depression and insomnia, also certain gynecological disorders such as dysmenorrhea, PMS, and fertility problems.
"As a physician who provides acupuncture, I look in-depth into the patient's presenting problem to properly diagnose the condition and uncover any underlying pathology that needs to be addressed through conventional medicine," Dr Atassi said. He emphasized that a proper initial diagnosis is important so that a potentially serious medical condition is not covered up.
Dr. Atassi is a member of the medical staff at Porter Regional Hospital. He is board certified in family medicine and practiced in Syria and France before completing his family practice residency at IU Northwest.
